Brand Building in Partnership with Local Communities
The origins of our craftsmanship date back to 1876, when the Kaitakushi Beer Brewery opened in Sapporo and beer production began. Since then, we have nurtured our Brands and woven a cultural legacy while engaging with the “towns” and people in various regions, starting with our founding location.
Beer Brewing in Hokkaido, Continuing from the Kaitakushi Era
In Hokkaido, authentic beer brewing began by leveraging the region’s unique climate and environment, leading to the birth of “Sapporo Beer” in 1877. Beer developed alongside the region’s food culture and gradually took root in the local community. A symbol
of this is 『SAPPORO CLASSIC』 a Hokkaido-exclusive beer launched in 1985.Since its launch, it has been beloved not only by Hokkaido residents but also by the many people who visit the region.
Since 2008, we have developed a limited-edition series that allows people to enjoy the changing seasons—spring, summer, and fall—cultivating it as a Hokkaido tradition (the spring and summer editions began in 2016).
Furthermore, through activities such as tours of our Hokkaido brewery, we continue to engage with people in various ways so that those who love Hokkaido can experience moments of happiness.
Another Origin Where Brands and Community Grow Together
Our philosophy of staying close to the community extends beyond just brewing beer in Hokkaido, our founding home. Another origin of this philosophy is Ebisu, Tokyo.
Launched in 1890, “Yebisu Beer” has been cherished by the community, developing such a deep connection that the brand’s name eventually became synonymous with the neighborhood itself. From the opening of Yebisu Garden Place to the legacy carried on by YEBISU BREWERY TOKYO, the bond between the brand and the community continues to thrive to this day.
Brand Development Rooted in the Community
This commitment to the community is not limited to Hokkaido or Ebisu.
In Niigata, drawing on connections to the places associated with Seibei Nakagawa and Kihachiro Okura—who were deeply involved in the company’s early days—the Niigata-exclusive beer “Fumisōkainishite” was born. The product name derives from the advertising slogan for the chilled “Sapporo Beer” completed by Seibei Nakagawa in 1877: “Refreshing in flavor and effective for the stomach.” It is a region-exclusive brand brewed with gratitude toward Niigata Prefecture.
In Shizuoka Prefecture, leveraging our ties to the brewery’s location, we launched “Shizuoka Beer,” a regional limited-edition beer developed primarily by people from Shizuoka. Aiming to “harmonize with the flavors of Shizuoka,” we are developing it as a brand that closely aligns with the local dining scene.
In this way, we have carefully nurtured brands that are deeply rooted in their local communities, while respecting regional cultures, taste preferences, and historical connections.
Nurturing Brands Together with the Community
Starting from our journey in Hokkaido, our founding home, we have cherished “Brands that shine with individuality” and the connections between people and communities. Moving forward, we will continue to expand our brand-building efforts and experiential opportunities tailored to each region, delivering the unique value that each area has to offer.
