Sapporo Group at a Glance
Year of Founding
1876
Since our founding in Sapporo, Hokkaido as the Kaitakushi Brewery, we have built a history spanning over 140 years into the Sapporo Group we are today.
We will continue to write new chapters in our history and strive to be a company that contributes to society.
Commitment to Ingredients
A major brewery that engages in
both
barley breeding
and
hops breeding
—a practice extremely rare worldwide
Sapporo Breweries is one of the few companies in the world that grows its own barley and hops. With the belief that great beer starts with great ingredients, we have spent over a century growing our fields and developing our own seeds. This dedication is the source of a distinctive flavor found only in Sapporo beer.
A place steeped in history and tradition
The Ginza Lion Building, Japan’s oldest surviving beer hall, is registered as a National Tangible Cultural Property (Architectural Structure).
The building was completed on April 8, 1934, as the headquarters of Dai-Nippon Beer Co., Ltd., with a beer hall on the first floor. It was designed as a landmark beer hall, created to represent Japan for generations. Keeping its original look, it continues to welcome guests today as Beer Hall Lion Ginza 7-chome.
